This presentation will provide a critical analysis of Canada's immigration system within the context of worldwide migration, displacement and capitalist globalization. Topics covered will include: contemporary migration; the history of border controls; colonialism, neo-colonialism and self-determination; security and the "war on terror"; resistance to borders; secret trials and security certificates; the detention of immigrants; contemporary campaigns for immigrant rights; and more.
Speaker Bio:
Jaggi Singh is a no borders, anti-capitalist, migrant and indigenous solidarity organizer based in Montreal. He is currently active with No One Is Illegal-Montreal, Solidarity Across Borders and is the Action Groups Coordinator at QPIRG Concordia.
