Event Description

Deconstructing Sustainable Development - Déconstruire le développement durable

Green Campus

  • Time: 5:30pm - 7:00pm
  • Date: Thursday, January 28, 2010
  • Location: Simard 123
  • Event Type:

What is sustainable development and what is truly 'sustainable? These terms amongst others relating to growth, ethics, ecology and societal needs are at the forefront of popular debate. We see them incorporated into everything from politics to business to activism, but do we truly understand what they mean and what they truly entail?

This workshop will allow participants to hear brief presentations from experts in differing fields related to 'sustainability' and how you as emerging leaders can harness and promote those values. We will aim to deconstruct both the 'Triple Bottom Line' Approach to development that has largely become our mainstreamed approach; as well as proposed alternatives to such an approach. Attendees will be encouraged to engage in an active discussion after hearing from our sector experts, that will be facilitated by students from the Green Campus Club. Please note, this workshop is open to all students from all domains of studies and knowledge levels of sustainability.

Come and learn about what it means to be sustainable and if we as a country or global society are following the right path as we enter a new decade!
